Las Vegas, NV – (March 2, 2010) – Chad Kemenah made the long trip from Findlay, Ohio to the beautiful Las Vegas Motor Speedway looking to jumpstart his 2010 season. As the crowd filled the massive grandstand on the front stretch Kemenah and crew member Cale Powers were hard at work setting up the Golden Flavored Sesame Sticks No.63 sprinter for qualifying. After qualifying was completed Kemenah would time in 12th quick overall, giving him a front row starting position in the upcoming heat races.
Starting on the pole of the third and final heat race Kemenah had to be sharp for eight solid laps with Jason Meyers, Danny Lasoski and Jason Sides starting behind him. Kemenah would take the green flag and get the start he was looking for and settle into the second position behind race leader Joey Saldana. With the track still very narrow and fast Kemenah would continue to hit his marks and keep Jason Sides in the third position after the short eight lap duel was completed. The second place finish would put Kemenah in the Dash starting in the tenth position.
“After the heat race was done we changed a few things on the car,” said Kemenah. “I knew we were starting in the back of the Dash, but I was pretty confident we could at least move up a few spots after everything was all said and done.”
As the cool evening progressed it was now time for Kemenah to better his starting position for the 30-Lap, A-Main event by making a statement in the very short six lap Dash. Kemenah would take the green flag trying to make his way forward but the car was not responding to the changes that were made and the No.63 sprinter would come home in the tenth position.
Starting in the tenth position for the feature Kemenah knew he was going to be in a dog fight for 30-Laps but the veteran driver was feeling pretty good before he climbed in his sharp looking Golden Flavor Sesame Sticks machine. The Las Vegas Motor Speedway was filled to capacity and Kemenah was ready to march his way forward and when the lights turned green around the ½ mile in the desert Kemenah got the jump he was looking for and was able to advance to the eighth position after one lap.
After the first lap was completed Kemenah continued to work the bottom of the speedway where he felt pretty good. A few laps later Kemenah would miss the bottom line ever so slightly and the mistake hurt, as he would lose a couple of positions forcing him back to the tenth position. Kemenah would continue to search the track trying to find a good line but nothing was working early in the race.
The first caution flag of the night would come out around Lap-10 setting up a double file restart. Making the bottom of the speedway work to his advantage Kemenah would miss his mark and spin the tires on the green flag restart causing him to lose two more positions in the process. Kemenah quickly got things back under control and started to make his way back into the top ten three laps later.
Just past the half-way point of the race Kemenah was running in the ninth position before Terry McCarl suffered an engine problem with his No.24 sprinter and as McCarl tried to move into the infield he was unaware that Kemenah was next him as he made his way into the infield forcing Kemenah was to slow down causing him to lose five positions. Kemenah quickly jumped on the gas and tried everything he could to move forward but the set up had gone away leaving Kemenah in the 17th position after the 30-Lap feature was completed.
“The car felt good the first couple of laps,” said Kemenah. “After that I knew were in trouble because it the car felt like it was on ice. I was able to find a few spots on the track where the car felt great but you had to be perfect in order for it to work and if anyone was in front of us it was very difficult accomplish. Cale worked really tonight and hopefully next weekend at Tulare we can get this Golden Flavor Sesame Sticks, Hampshire Engines, MS Motorsports, Maxim in victory lane.”
